{mosimage}Finally I have decided to sever my ties with cousin sister Shenbaga and my uncle. This came close to the heels of the problems being escalated to parent's level. The bone of content is my closeness to my niece & their daughter Ammu. Like I have mentioned in my previous blogs, she was the girl simplicity personified. She didn't get the needed affection from her parents and her brother. She settled with where she got them - her friend's circle. May be I understood her problem, I always had been kind to her. Similiarly with Meera, my another niece. Whenever I go to Meera's house in Coimbatore, we (Meera, Uma, Ammu and I) always have a good time and last time on New Year Eve, Ammu gave her long overdue treat - the one for her salary increment.
Shenbaga was miffed with that. Her arguement is that since Ammu is yet to get married, society will mistake us, tampering her marriage prospects..
I found Shenbaga's concept ludicrous. So are then clandestine meetings OK?
Who is society? It consists of a group of humans. Don't they have other work than monitoring whom Ammu is meeting at when & where?
One individual's problem might be entertaining for others (society) for a while. Once it gets a problem of its own, it forgets everything that happened around and gets immersed in clearing ways.
Do they need to give more importance to 'so called society' than believing their own people?
I don't care for the society's opinion for they don't know anything about us. I realised it with a small incident.
In my final years of college, when I came to my hometown, I took my sister and my fave kid Viggi to beach on a week day. We had good fun and we all were running around. A group of people while passing us passed inisuated some comments and were giggling among themselves. They had misunderstood us. We laughed at them.
Years later my sister came on a vaction from US, I took her to Marudhamalai. She said that I was driving fast, so she chose to drive the Scooty and I took the pavilion. Since the Law College was on the doot of Marudhamalai, all the lovers and class bunkers used to sit in the uphill road of Marudhamalai. One guy shouted at us "Machchan, Kali Kalamda, Ponnu Ottudhu". Sports personified, my sister retaliated, "Nee ukkanthukkiRiya?"
Both the incidents prove that society doesn't know about the 'individual's life and better not to worry about them. Even if Ammu's brother takes her to shopping in her bike, what is the guarantee that society will recognise them as brothers and sisters?
I always lived my life the way I wanted to. Infact I rebelled against the traditions I didn't believe in than complying for society's approvals. I always cared for my beloved ones' opinions and wishes than going for the society's approval. Only those very few people who had understood me matters, not those's who don't even know me at all.
I pray that Ammu gets married to some nice understanding human rather than a society bound individual. Atleast let her get all the love, affection she missed with her parents. I may not go to Ammu's marriage but my wishes and prayers will always be with her.
