{mosimage}A couple of days back in NDTV and other news channels this case made headlines - In Delhi, a teacher recently stripped a 7 yr old girl for not doing the homework, tied her hands in the back, made her walk parade in front of the class. In Bangalore there was a case reportedly a teacher hit her student hard that her little finger had broken, another case with the student's left eye blinded. A couple of rape cases of 12th std girls by their chemistry teachers in the lab and more & more sexually abused students. All the incidents mentioned had happened in an years' span and reported in NDTV. This is only the cases that were brought to limelight by the media and volumes of similiar incidents might have gone undisclosed to public.
The reported case of injustices meted out to the future society is not only shocking but also disturbing. We all believe that our kids will be safe in the hands of the teacher. We even overlook the corporal punishments with the hopes that they are for the welfare of our kids. Infact the society had given the right for corporal punishments only to two disciplines - Police & Teachers. But are these personnel taking this concession to their advantage?
I personally believe that most of the cases are out of personal frustrations. The earlier batches of teachers, who have started in 50's, 60's and even 70's were really professional. They opted for the teaching profession out of love than compulsion. They were happy to be a ladder where the students climbed over them to reach newer heights in their lives. For the next generation who started their career in 80's, teaching happened to be second option. So there was a sort of slip in the professionalism levels. They insisted in making extra money through compelling their students to have private coachings and was satisfied a bit that the differences in the average higher incomes and theirs were slimmer.

But most of those who started in the early this century had taken teaching as a interim job, or last retort. The frustration of their students making a jump start in the career whereas they feel that they are relegated to just ladder or doormat makes them indifferent to their job and behaving rude to the students was a sort of venting out such frustration.
Also today education had loomed large as money making machinery. The teachers hands were tied even to raise voices for ther basic rights. How many educational institutions pay their staffs by UGSC scale? Even the so called prolific institutions pay to the tune of Rs. 3500 - 4000/- in school level and Rs. 7000 - Rs. 8000/-. So the people who came recently to this professional are working with reluctance. No wonder in hearing comments like 'Ennatha kidaikkuthu intha velaila? (what I am earning in this profession)'. The very basic altruistic attitude needed for this profession is missing.
Also the parents have to be blamed. Most of the parents, who happened to be working ones, put their kids in school even an year before the appropriate age for their convenience. When the parents themselves doesn't have the patience to bring up their kids, how can they expect somebody else to be nice to theory kids? Just paying exorbitant money as tuition fees alone cannot substitute for love.
There is no effort to offer any sort of solutions but a mere observation. It is really a disturbing trend that present day teachers behaving indifferent to their work. All the sectors including the parents and teachers should work for betterment of our future society, retaining their innocense.
