{mosimage} Jillunnu Oru kadhal takes you back to those exhilirating moments when you hear AR Rahman's album for the first time, that happened way back in early 90's. I still remember those magical moments when I heard ARR's albums for the first time especially "Kadhalan" - the chorus "Indhiraiyo ival sundariyo..", Thiruda Thiruda's "Thee thee thithikkum thee..." and Taal's "Ishq bina kya..", which never failed to transport you to the world of fantascies and beautifully mounted visuals. Years passed by, AR Rahman started losing his Midas touch, until "Rang De Basanti" happened. Back in Tamil after a l...ong time, I experienced those mesmerising moments all again with "Jillunnu Oru Kadhal (JOK)".
Stylish orchestrations, scintillating chorus, simple tunes and lyrics that matched the beauty... JOK is a winner from the word "Go". With JOK, AR Rahman proves the world that he still has that intensity, and all he needs is a passionate filmaker to bring that best out of him.
First of all my heartiest wishes for the lead pair Surya & Jyotika who are about to settle down in a marriage bliss on September 11, 2006, after five long years of courtship.
There are 7 tracks of which five are likely to appear on screen. Out of which 3 are my hardcore favourites and 1 being in tow. My favourites in that order:-
1. Munbe Vaa... En Anbe vaa:- AR Rahman displays his unusual flair for melody with this Naresh Iyer & Shreya Ghosal (easily the best thing happened to Indian film music). The best part of this melody is the chorus part that doubles as humming filling your heart with an unexplainable bliss.
2. Jillunnu Oru Kadhal:- Newcomer Tanvi exudes fun, enthusiasm and seduction in this old western jazz felt song. Her voice is something that lends a difference to this number. This is a really peppy number that increased the adrenaline on first hearing itself. It'll surely become a rage once the movie is released.
3. New York nagaram urangum.. :- AR Rahman steps behind the mike and croons this lullaby like melody, yet very much contemporary and stylish with crisp orchestration. This is one song that might take up lot of airtime when the movie is released.
4. Mazaa... Mazaa:- This is a number rendered by SP Charan & Shreya Ghosal, oozes tonnes of sensuality and promises to be a sizzling erotica. Watch for this, which might end up as the scorching number on screen. I believe this is picturised on Surya & Jyothika.
5. Maricham.. :- Sung by the trio Carolis, Mohammed Aslam and Krishna, this song is for music lovers of AR Rahman alone as it won't be in the movie.
6. Macchakkari :- Shankar Mahadevan and 'vivacious" Vasudhara Das come together for this fast number. I don't have much to write about as it hadn't grown on me still.
7. Kummi Adi.. :- A typical opening number filled with folk beats features a brigade of singers - Dr. Sizrkazhi Siva Chidambaram, Theni Kunjaramma, Swarnalatha, Naresh Iyer and new comer Vignesh.
{mosimage}"Jillunnu Oru Kadhal" has all the potentials of joining the illustrious list of AR Rahman's evergreen hits - Roja, Dil Se, Taal and Rang de basanthi. I personally feel that this has some of his career's best songs, to be specific - "Munbe vaa.." & "New York Nagaram...". Guys, go for it, you'll rediscover that AR Rahman all again...
Move over all those pretenders of AR Rahman's throne. He is back with style and a big bang... Voila!
